Emergency Accommodation
Alternative Bus Pick up points
In the event of a major incident within the borough which causes the emergency services to evacuate the population from either their homes, places of work or commercial areas the local authority has plans in place to find alternative places of safety and transport where necessary.
If there is a need to evacuate town centres then for those who need public transport away from affected areas the council in association with Travel West Midlands can re-route the buses to alternative pick up points. The police when evacuating these areas will inform people of the alternative points.
If unexploded devices are in the area it may be that you are unable to return to your vehicles in which instances we would advise you either to return home via public transport or go to the alternative accommodation which will be made available.
A sanitised copy of the plan is attached below.
Rest Centres
Where people have been evacuated from their homes then the council will open public buildings as a place of refuge for the community until such time as they are able to return to their homes.
As well as opening these premises, the council has a number of staff trained to staff these Rest centres and ensure the welfare of thosr using these buildings. A copy of the Rest Centre Managers Guide is attached for public information.
Survivors Centres
Persons who have been involved in the incident or are survivors of such as transport crashes will be taken to Survivor Centres, the facilities will be the same as Rest Centres. There will however be medical treatment available for any injured persons.
Family and Friends Centres
In the event that families and friends of survivors require information as to the whereabouts of their nearest and dearest they will be directed to a Friends and Families Reception Centre.
All these centres will be run on the same lines.
