Town Centre Evacuation

Over the years there have been many occurrences where town and city centres have had to be evacuated, for various reasons, these could include acts of terrorism, major fires, building collapses or natural disasters.

In these events the emergency services, together with the local authority and businesses, have planned to evacuate these areas as quickly and efficiently as possible to ensure the safety of all those staff and customers within the affected area.

The police have plans to physically evacuate the centres whilst the council, in association with the police, have arrangements in place with those businesses which have registered, to send TEXT messages to inform those businesses to evacuate, thus saving valuable time.

Businesses can sign up by visiting the Evacuation Alert System for Emergencies (EASE) webpage.

In order to assist in transporting people out of the town centre, buses will not be able to enter the affected area. Therefore the council has an arrangement with Travel West Midlands to re-direct buses to alternative pick up points. The police at the time of any incident will inform those evacuating where these locations are.
