Changes from 1st April 2015

In his autumn statement on 3 December 2014, the Chancellor announced a number of measures aimed at helping businesses:

  • Temporary Retail Relief has been increased.  Up to £1,500 will be awarded to qualifying occupied retail premises (pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops) with a rateable value of £50,000 or less for the forthcoming financial years (state aid limits apply).

  • Extending the period that the Small Business Rate Relief (SBRR) percentage will be doubled.  This will be until 31st March 2016 (and would have revert to its original level of relief from 1st April 2015).

  • Continuing to cap the Retail Prices Index (RPI) increase in business rates to 2% for 2015/16.  This is a reduction of 0.3% on the actual RPI figure of 2.3%.
