All of The Princes Trust activities have one overall purpose: to reach young people in the UK who face more barriers than most, and help them get past those barriers so they can get their lives working and make a positive contribution to society. The Prince's Trust supports young people in a number of ways:

Team - a 12-week personal development course that helps 16-25 year olds  to develop confidence, motivation and skills through teamwork in the community.

Development Awards -  Cash awards of £50- £500 together with advice and support to enable young people aged 16 to 25 years of age to access opportunities in training, education or employment.

Business Programme - Low interest loans, grants and other business start-up support for 18-30 year olds

Sound Live - A six-month programme that helps unemployed young people develop their musical talents, as well as self-confidence and life skills.

XL Clubs - A programme in schools for 14-16 year olds at risk of truanting, exclusion and underachievement. The clubs use a teamwork approach towards personal development, to improve students' attendance, motivation and social skills.

Pilots in prisons - We are piloting personal development courses in prison for those still serving their sentences, as preparation for release.

Leaving Care Initiative - We work with over 40 organisations in the UK to provide personal volunteer mentors to young people who are leaving care or have left care. The mentors support and advise careleavers, help them learn new skills and gain knowledge, and enable access to Trust programmes and other services in the community, so careleavers can make the transition to adult life and independent living.

Lora’s sparkling success

Tony Mitton with Lora Leedham
For jewellery designer Lora Leedham a simple phone call to Dudley Council led to appointments with Vogue magazine and contact with royalty.

Lora contacted the Council with her dream of starting a business designing and making her own jewellery. Within a matter of months her work was being showcased in boutiques and galleries all over the country.

When Lora, aged 20, approached us we realised the best route for her business was through The Prince’s Trust so put her in touch with the trust and Lora’s dream was turned into reality.

Lora said: “I’m set up in business now thanks to the help of the council and the direction offered by The Prince’s Trust.  I have completed a necklace for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall and personally delivered it to  St James Palace. Camilla wore it for the celebratory event for the 30th anniversary of The Prince’s Trust. On the same day I had an appointment with the editor of Vogue who have agreed to feature my jewellery.

“With the right help and support you really can make your dreams come true.”

Tony Mitton, Prince’s Trust Programme Manager for the Central Team, added: “Lora is an excellent example of the talent we have here in the borough. She made one call and began to turn her pipedream into a career”

”We want to hear from more people like Lora who have the same ambition and passion, there must be many, it’s just a matter of finding them.”
