There are nearly 3 million accidents at home each year where someone visits an Accident and Emergency department for treatment. In addition, there are a similar number of cases where a someone is treated by a General Practitioner as well as the millions of minor cases which are treated at home.

Every year there are over 3,000 deaths in the UK due to accidents at home.

What sort of things should I be careful of at home?

The direct.gov website provides a lot of other useful home safety tips. Slips and trips and falls are some of the most common causes of injury at home. The Council's falls prevention service aims at preventing falls of elderley people at home.

What other services does the Council provide?

The 'Survive Alive' project aimed to improve safety and awareness for school children in the Borough. The project has now ceased though advice is still available through Safeside.
