Licences and Street Trading

The council is responsible for issuing a wide range of licences to businesses. You can download application forms and guidance for most licences online as well as submit applications and pay for some of the licences online as well.
 
Disclosure Forms
If you have been awaiting a copy of your Disclosure Form from the Criminal Records Bureau for five weeks or more you should contact the Criminal Records Bureau on 0870 90 90 844.
 
Notice to all Applicants
Discrepancies in spelling of names on passports, drivers licences and application forms will delay the application process. You should ensure that your passport / drivers licence / application forms all show correctly spelt names.

Animal Licences

The council issues licences for business premises where animals are going to be kept or cared for. These include: Pet Shops; Animal boarding establishments (such as kennels and catteries), Zoos and Riding Establishments.

Licensing Act 2003

The new Licensing regime is now in place and responsibility for all liquor licensing has transferred from Magistrates Courts to Local Councils.

Health and Safety

The Council issues a range of Heath and Safety related licenses to protect the health, safety and welfare of employees and members of the public in workplaces within the borough.
 

Highway Licences

A licence is required to place materials on the highway, erect a hoarding or scaffolding, place a skip on the highway, oversail a highway with a tower crane, or to excavate within the highway.

Food Registration

Registration of premises used for a food business (including market stalls, delivery vehicles and other moveable structures) is required by law.
 
Registration will allow local authorities to keep an up-to-date list of all those premises in their area so they can visit them when they need to. The frequency of the visits will depend on the type of business.
