Anyone selling pet animals must hold a licence from the local authority. Pet animals include any vertebrate animals - fish, amphibian, reptile, bird or mammal.
Pet animals may only be sold from permanent premises – eg not a market stall.
Exceptions: One off sales from home – e.g. of kittens, rabbits, etc. (NB Persons who breeds dogs and produce more than 5 litters per year need a Breeding Establishment Licence)
