Under the Gambling Act 2005 licensing authorities are required to prepare and publish a statement of the principles that it proposes to apply when exercising its functions under the Act. These aim to:-
- Prevent gambling being a source of crime or disorder, being associated with crime or disorder, or being used to support crime;
- Ensure that gambling is carried out in a fair and open way;
- Protect children and other vulnerable people from being harmed or exploited by gambling.
The Statement of Principles. is reviewed every three years. The revised statement is updated to reflect changes in the statutory guidance.
Before a revised policy can be published the Licensing Authority must consult with certain other organisations such as West Midlands Police, gambling businesses and other organisations or people affected by gambling activities, however we would be happy to hear from anyone with an interest in this policy and its revisions.
