DSA fee increases from 4 January 2011 due to VAT change
VAT will increase from 17.5 per cent to 20 per cent on 4 January 2011. This increase will affect the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) non-statutory test fees for taxi and private hire tests . The fees listed below are effective from 4 January 2011.

Information about private hire and Hackney carriage assessments has been available as a hardcopy booklet in the past. From 1 December 2010 DSA no longer issue hardcopy booklets for distribution to candidates. DSA will still make an electronic version of the booklet available to local authorities.

Testing Manual for Hackney, Private Hire and Special Event Vehicles
This manual is a detailed guide as to how hackney, private hire and special event vehicles will be tested at Dudley MBC’s Transport Services (The Depot, Lister Road, Dudley, DY2 8JW). The manual is available for download at the foot of this page.

CRB Checks
Private hire and hackney carriage driver licence applicants will need to complete a disclosure form which will be sent on to the Criminal Records Bureau.
Production of Insurance
We operate an insurance policy to ensure that vehicles have proper insurance cover at all times. This is for the benefit of both the driver and passengers. The Licensing Section's duty is to ensure that the travelling public are safe, therefore failure on the part of the Applicant to conform to the Policy will incur fees. Medical Reports - A Medical Report is required for each new application for either a Hackney Carriage Driver or Private Hire Driver licence.

Staying Safe : Guidance for taxi drivers
Those who serve the travelling public are entitled to perform their work in safety and without abuse.
A leaflet containing practical advice on how to reduce the risk of violence and anti-socail behaviour against taxi drivers is available from the Licensing Office and will be distributed to all Taxi and Private Hire Licence holders. More information can be found at the Dept of Transport website.
Points to note for all users of TAXI AND PRIVATE HIRE Vehicles
Passengers travelling in a private hire car or a taxi should be aware :-

It is a criminal offence punishable by imprisonment to leave a private hire or taxi without paying the fare.

If you are physically sick in a private hire or a taxi you will be required to pay the driver approximately £35 for the vehicle to be valeted.
-
If you are verbally abusive to the driver of a private hire car or taxi he/she may refuse to continue with your journey and you are liable to face police prosecution.
