A new market place for Dudley town centre

Dudley Market Consultation Plans

Public consultation - second round

This consultation runs from 24 October to 2 December 2011

In the spring Dudley Council presented its initial proposals to redevelop Dudley’s historic market place. The initial consultation, which was held in March and ran for six weeks, featured three different market place options:

  • Option one: Two rows of stalls either side of the historic spine plus central boulevard

  • Option two: Two rows of stalls one side of the historic spine plus trees

  • Option three: Stalls offset plus boulevard

All three market place options included the removal and relocation of the toilet block, which impinges on the view of the castle and restricts a significant part of the market’s function.

The redevelopment of the market place will aim to

  • Make the area more open and accessible for all that work on the market or shop there

  • Create flexibility for busy days to add stalls and remove them at the end of the day

  • See an overall reduction in the number of stalls to create an opportunity for more passing trade, while retaining the flexibility to add stalls when required
