For this reason, a member of staff by appointment, will be pleased to meet you before any interment takes place, to ensure that the cemetery and section chosen is to your satisfaction. There are seven cemeteries and two crematorium under the control of Dudley Council.

Cremation

The cremation of a human body is a highly emotional occasion for those taking part in the service. This must never be forgotten by the officials of the crematorium, who must combine to create and maintain an atmosphere of reverence and respect throughout the entire proceedings.

The two crematorium in the borough are at Gornal Wood and Stourbridge.

Registering a Death

You should registering the death in the registration district in which the death happened. If it is not convenient for you to visit the register office for the district, you can go to any other register office in England or Wales to make a “Declaration of the Particulars”.

If the death occurred within Dudley Borough, you can register at either Dudley Council Plus, Dudley Register Office or Stourbridge Register Office. If you are not sure in which district the death happened, please phone one of the offices for advice.

Advice, support and comfort for the bereaved

When somebody close to you dies, it can be helpful to get advice and support with dealing your loss. You can seek practical help from the funeral directors involved, or from your family doctor. If you need more guidance or support, though, there are agencies that can help.

Family History & Genealogy Research Service

Bereavement Services now offer a Genealogy Research Service to locate a person that is buried within one of the boroughs cemeteries. The online facility provides both the burial location and grave number.

Memorials

Memorials are a lasting monument and tribute to a person's life, perhaps the final gift to someone dearly loved. it is therefore important to choose the monument carefully and Bereavement Services can provide advice on the options available to you.

Civil Funerals

A Civil Funeral Ceremony is, above all, a ceremony that reflects the wishes of the family and is focused on celebrating the life of the deceased. It is both a dignified tribute and a highly personal memoir, created by a professional Celebrant in consultation with the family or executor.

Funeral Directors

Most people choose to entrust the organisation of a funeral to a professional Funeral Director to ensure that the remains of the deceased are disposed of with dignity and propriety. A list of Local Funeral Directors is available on this site.
