Burials Graves

Brierley Hill Cemetery

The interment of a loved one is extremely emotional occasion and it is important that your individual needs are met. For this reason, a member of staff by appointment, will be pleased to meet you before any interment takes place, to ensure that the cemetery and section chosen is to your satisfaction.

The Interment Application Form that you will be asked to complete, gives this Authority the information required to prepare a grave to meet your needs.

Memorials

The memorial remains the property of its owner and it is the owner’s responsibility to ensure the memorial is maintained in a safe condition. We do, therefore, expect memorial owners to regularly check to ensure their memorial remains safe.

The council will inspect memorials and any found dangerous will either be laid down, or fenced off until we have written to the grave owner about rectifying the memorial.

Please note that individual sections at different cemeteries have a variation in memorial regulations. Your funeral director or the cemetery office staff will be able to advise you fully before any interment takes place, as to the size and type of memorial allowed on the section you have chosen.

Temporary Plot Marker

Following the interment in a new grave whether it is a full cremated remains or babies’ grave, a temporary plot marker will automatically be placed on the grave normally on the same day as the interment. It will be removed when it is replaced by a permanent memorial.
