We've outlined in this section information compiled as part of our submission to the IDeA for Beacon Status under the theme of "Getting Closer to Communities".
You can find the full application as well as extracts from a video prepared to support our bid through this website. The summary of our submission is highlighted below.
"Dudley Council is committed to being close to the communities we serve. The key values at the heart of our Council Plan emphasise the importance of getting close to local communities, involving local people in community life, ensuring our services respond to local needs and sustain community well-being. A fundamental principle of our work within Dudley Borough has been the genuine commitment of the Council, and the Voluntary & Community Sector (VCS) to develop joint approaches to common issues.
Our bid for Beacon status particularly focuses upon a range of practical achievements in engaging local communities. These include the innovations in community planning; our work with young people; the excellent practice of our Compact with the VCS; the inclusion of local people in regeneration; and redesigning Council services to be closer and more accessible. In each of these areas we have worked with local people to change traditional ways of working, to extend participation and build joint ownership of outcomes. Many of these innovations have already attracted national recognition. We are proud of our commitment to be local and responsive, and see the overall focus upon community development as being essential to the future vitality of local government. If selected for Beacon Council status, we will passionately promote these values, to encourage and help other Councils to develop sustainable programmes to invigorate local community engagement."
