News from last year’s event
On Saturday 5th March 2011, the hall and grounds of Priory Hall were opened up to the public as Dudley Citizenship and Registration Services held their second annual open day and wedding exhibition.
Over 400 people attended the open day and 20 local companies exhibited within the hall and grounds. Wedding cars were parked on the driveway at the front of the building, whilst inside Priory Hall, bridal wear, wedding favours and accessories, celebration balloons and wedding stationery were on display. Local photographers were available to book for the big day.
Outside a hog roast provided refreshment for the visitors along with the delights of a chocolate fountain inside Priory hall for all to sample. There was a large and varied selection of cars to choose from for the bride who wants to arrive in style from classic cars to modern limos, VW camper to the A team’s van! Providing entertainment for the day was a roving magician.
During the day three demonstration wedding ceremonies took place; they were informative for couples looking to tie the knot. Visitors were invited to act as bride and groom during the ceremony and local comedienne, Marlene, performed the humorous Pam Ayres poem, ‘Yes, I’ll marry you’ in a Black Country Dialect!
Future brides packed into The Priory Suite to watch the two fashion shows. Over 25 wedding dresses, all provided by the three bridal companies attending the open day, were modelled. Each bride walked down the catwalk and through the balloon arch provided by one of the exhibitors.
Couples were able to make ceremony bookings during the event and many received guidance and information from the registrars about their planned ceremony and the legal requirements.
A ‘Win a Priory Suite wedding’ draw was made by the then Mayor of Dudley, Cllr Peter Miller. The winning couple were married in The Priory Suite, a few weeks later.
The Friends of Priory Park exhibited a display and gave information out about the development plans for Priory Park.
