Quarry Bank

Quarry Bank is a traditional local shopping centre, situated close to the Merry Hill and Saltwells Local Nature Reserve.  The street scene is compromised mainly of pre-1929 buildings, many of which have been drastically altered by replacement with modern shop frontages.

Quarry Bank local centre has been identified as a priority in terms of regeneration, the development of Quarry Bank Local Centre Regeneration Strategy has been delayed as a result of consideration of options concerning the inclusion of the local centre within the Brierley Hill Area Action Plan (BHAAP) boundary. It was decided through the consultation stage of the BHAAP that the local centre would not be included in the boundary and since then the Council has been bidding for resources to undertake a regeneration strategy for Quarry Bank Local Centre.

In October 2008 resources were secured to develoop the Regeneration Strategy and Colin Buchanan Planning Consultants were appointed in November 2009 to undertake the work. The first consutlation phase identifying the issues and possible solutions took place on January 26th 2009 and the consultants will be presenting a series of regeneration options for the local centre to the community in March 2009. It is expected that the final Quarry Bank Local Centre Regeneration Strategy will be approved by the Council by autumn 2010.

A survey of all the 17 local and district centres takes place on an annual basis in order to measure the performance of each centre over time and is also used to compare areas and set priorities. The statistics collected include number of vacant units in the centre, number of vacant units in the areas that fall under the protected retail frontage and diversity of uses in the centre.
