Dudley Borough Business Crime Partnership (DBBCP) is a private company, with its principal partners being Dudley Council, West Midlands Police, Crown Prosecution Service and local/national businesses. The scheme allows West Midlands to share crime and criminal information on prolific offenders that are operating within the Borough and surrounding areas; with business members of the scheme, through protocols and procedures that meet the stringent guidelines of the Home Office and Data Protection Act 1998.
The scheme is currently operating from the Town Centres of Dudley, Stourbridge, Halesowen, Brierley Hill and the local centres of Kingswinford and Sedgley.
To keep up to date with current technology a new internet based National Business Information System (NBIS) has been introduced, which allows Dudley to share crime and criminal activity between main business centres across the UK.
Whilst the DBBCP scheme is a huge success with its members, it is also recognised as Best Practice by the Home Office and Government Office for the West Midlands, along with winning The Association of Town Centre Managers regional award for Community Safety 2005. The DBBCP continues to build on its success. It was recognised that whilst the Partnership keeps up to date with its computerised technology, it is still lagging behind with the equally important radio technology. As a result of the topography of the borough problems had been encountered with establishing radio links between the townships within the borough. The radio link project was therefore established to introduce new technology radios and find a solution for linking all towns in the partnership so they can feed back to the CCTV Unit at Sedgley. A solution was identified to the council's data network in order to introduce consistency and resilience across all of the radio link implementations to facilitate a link between each local centre and the CCTV Unit. The solution utilises council buildings such as libraries, where the council already has broadband connection, and has the roof space to plant a small transmitter/receiver unit that will connect local centre with CCTV Unit through the landline system.
Business Benefits
The successful implementation of the project has delivered radio links at all member local centres that will further assist the partnership to reduce business crime and anti-social behaviour at local centres.
Introduction of the landline technology will help maintain the impact the partnership will have in fighting crime and the fear of crime from our towns and businesses across the Borough.
