Budget consultation 2015-16

Big Question 2015 16 logo

Dear resident,

Cllr Stuart Turner
Cllr Stuart Turner, cabinet member for finance

Over the last two years, through our Big Question budget consultations, we have received around 7,000 responses offering views on how we should prioritise our reduced budgets to deliver your council services.

The number of people who took part in our Big Question consultations was bigger than any other budget consultation ever held by Dudley Council. Thanks to everyone who got involved.

As a community council, we’ve listened to our residents and attempted to maintain a high level of service whilst making the savings that are required due to the national funding shortfall. So far, we have made £60 million of savings but over the next three years we still have to find around a further £57 million.

In our budget proposals for this year (2015/16) we have made our forecasts on the assumption that we will again freeze your council tax which will ensure as Dudley borough residents you continue to pay some of the lowest council tax in the whole country.

However, due to the continued reduction in national government funding, we will have to find savings by changing the way we deliver services or even stopping the delivery of services where there is no other option.

The job of allocating money to different council services is under more pressure than ever before with the continued reduction in government funding. That’s why in this year’s ‘Big Question – 2015/16’, we’re asking you to tell us your top five services.

Thanks for taking the time to have your say.

Councillor Stuart Turner, cabinet member for finance at Dudley Council
