Our plans for the future


We are responsible for a number of key priorities set by the council, which include
 
For adult services
  • continuing to personalise social care, enabling people to choose their own care package
  • implementing the ‘Valuing People Now’ priorities for people with learning disabilities and continuing to encourage links between individuals and their communities
  • continuing to develop a mental health partnership trust with Walsall Council sharing resources and successful practices
For housing services
  • completing the regeneration of North Priory, the blueprint of a successful local community for the 21st century
  • investing in extra care housing giving more choice and more lifestyle opportunities for older people
  • contributing to a wider range of decent and affordable homes so local people can live locally
For libraries, archives and adult learning
  • continuing with the modernisation of libraries and archives, safeguarding our heritage while providing our children, young adults and older people with the tools to learn

Our 10 directorate strategic plan priorities for 2009/2010 are:
  • implementing the next phase of the modernisation of library services
  • progressing the regeneration of the North Priory estate
  • to develop five extra care housing schemes across the borough as part of the wider vision to maximise opportunity and choice
  • putting people first – embracing transforming social care
  • implement Joint Review Learning Disability and Valuing People Now
  • providing a wider range of decent, affordable and accessible homes
  • developing community capacity through community participation – social capital (including volunteering)
  • transforming the archives and local history service
  • improving safeguarding for vulnerable adults
  • re-focusing housing services
