Cycling is fun, keeps us fit and helps keep the air we breathe cleaner. We provide training, advice and information to cyclists of all ages and types.

Our travel plan for cycling and walking is about encouraging more sustainable transport modes. It also considers if there is a real need for some journeys that we make by car.

People in Stourbridge and the surrounding area can use the West Midlands Cycle Hire SchemeBikes are available in docking stations placed at key locations in and around Stourbridge.

Cycling Maps

There are plenty of cycling opportunities for all abilities and ages in the Dudley Borough.

We have produced a number of leaflets to help plan cycling journeys.

Cycling in schools and colleges

Teaching Bikeability in a school environment supports many areas of school life.

These include

  • Developing valuable life skills.
  • Encouraging physical activity.
  • Active participation in Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Education.
  • Good for physical and emotional health.

Bikeability Training helps riders to cycle skilfully and confidently. It also contributes to more people cycling, more safely, more often.

Schools can book via the Road Safety Team free of charge. There are various Bikeability courses available for their pupils. These courses are extremely popular so early booking is advisable.

Cycling training for adults and children

We also run Bikeability training courses during school holidays, on weekends and at various events.

These can be offered as group or individual sessions. They can also be adapted to be inclusive to enable all where possible to take part.

These include sessions for children and adults. From complete beginners through to those looking to gain confidence riding on the road.

Bikeability plus, as well as Bikeability levels 1, 2 and 3 are available at these sessions.

Uniformed organisations as well as youth and community groups can also book these sessions for their members if required.

Dr Bike

A series of ‘pop up’ Dr Bike sessions are run throughout the year across the borough. They are community-based events which enable the public to bring along their bikes and have a trained mechanic check them over.

Any adjustments or minor repairs made are done free of charge. These are made in discussion with the bike’s owner. The service free of charge and supports the drive for sustainable travel.

The events are run by Dr Bike trained mechanics, Bikeability instructors and road safety officers. There is also the chance at these events to discuss all things cycling with the staff manning the event.

We can also bookings for cycle training and road safety for both groups and individuals.
