The Special Educational Needs and Disability Act 2001 made Parent Partnership a statutory service.
The focus of Parent Partnership is to ensure that parents of children (aged 2-19 years) with additional needs have access to information, advice and guidance so that they are able to make appropriate and informed decisions about their child's education.
Parents who have a child with SEN access the service for support when they are concerned about such things as:
- understanding school based strategies and interventions;
- the assessment and statementing process;
- the implications of transition;
- exclusion.
We provide a range of flexible services:
- telephone help line services;
- home visits to spend quality time discussing concerns;
- written information on a range of SEN issues in a variety of community languages and alternative formats;
- training events; informal group meetings and workshops to help inform parents;
- signposting parents when necessary to other agencies such as Health, Social Services, Housing and Voluntary Organisations;
- help writing letters and completing forms;
- accompanying parents to meetings.
