Instrumental and Vocal Tuition Terms of Agreement

The Terms of Agreement as set out below are applicable once a student has been accepted for tuition.

  1. Lessons will commence at the beginning of the term following receipt of the application form.  During the Autumn term only, there will be an opportunity for children to start tuition at half term (half tuition fee payable).  Applications received after the closing dates will be carried forward to the next term.
  2. The basic length of a group lesson (2 students) is 20 minutes. To ensure consistent standards, the lesson length will be extended to 25 minutes (3 students) or 30 minutes (4 students).  In the event of a suitable group not being available students will receive a 15 minute lesson. Students that are above grade 3 standard may apply for individual tuition of either 20 or 30 minutes. Please contact DPA for current rates.
  3. Fees for all tuition and instrument provision are payable in advance each term and are non returnable. In the event of 30 lessons not being provided after each 12 month period, credit for the shortfall in lessons will be given for the following term’s charges. Pupils’ absence for any reason will be counted towards the number of lessons provided. After initial application parents will be invoiced termly, except when payment is made by Direct Debit which will be collected monthly.  Please see calendar for details of lesson dates.
  4. Acknowledgement will only be made for receipt of monies if a stamped addressed envelope is included with the application/renewal.
  5. No guarantee can be given as to the condition of DPA instruments, but every effort will be made to ensure that they are in a condition which allows the student to progress. The charge for maintenance covers normal wear and tear, but not the cost of replacement strings, rosin, reeds, valve oil or cleaning.  In the event of wilful damage and/or negligence, parents will be responsible for the cost of replacement or repair. Insurance against damage and/or loss is the responsibility of parents. The Head of DPA will have the final decision as to who receives a DPA instrument. The period of the loan for flutes, clarinets, cornets and trumpets is limited to 2 years. At the discretion of DPA this may be extended.
  6. Parents who can demonstrate that their children are entitled to free school meals will be given assistance towards the cost of lessons for students at secondary schools. Financial assistance is only available for one instrument.
  7. Notice to cease lessons must be indicated on the renewal notice, and must be returned to DPA by the stated date.

NB:  Direct Debits - when cancelling lessons, DPA should be informed in writing before the end of the previous term.
