Autism Outreach

The Autism Outreach Service supports pupils with a diagnosis of Autism, Asperger Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder in mainstream schools.

Support for Pupils

The service offers the following support:

  • Visual timetables

  • In-class support

  • Visual reminders / cues

  • Work systems

  • Social skill groups

  • One-to-one targeted teaching sessions

  • Re-integration into mainstream school

  • Transition to secondary schools and colleges

Support for Schools

The service offers supports to mainstream primary and secondary schools in Dudley.  This support may involve:

  • Monitoring

  • Assessment

  • Training for staff

  • Observations

  • Peer group awareness

  • Transition

  • Reviews

  • Advice for statutory assessment

  • Production of individualised resources

  • Planning individualised work

  • Target setting for IEPs

  • Differentiation of curriculum

  • Modelling good practice

Part of the service remit is to keep up to date with current research and initiatives in relation to autism spectrum disorders.  It is hoped that schools will benefit from this knowledge.

Special schools are offered 1.5 days of teacher time per term in a general advisory capacity.

Support for Families

The service offers support to parents  of pupils who have been referred to our service.

  • Home visits

  • Visual timetables / check lists /  reminders

  • Social stories

  • Homework strategies

  • Training

  • Information on sensory issues

Referrals

We accept referrals from:

  • Parents

  • Schools

  • CAMHS

  • Health professionals

  • Speech and Language therapists

  • Occupational therapists

  • Educational Psychologists

  • Parent Partnership

  • Other LEA support services

All referrals must be on an official form and accompanied by  parental consent and written confirmation of diagnosis.
