Children in Part-Time Employment -
who needs to be registered?
A Child who is over 13 years, and not over compulsory school age. HOWEVER
A child who is 16 years old before 31st August cannot leave school until the last Friday in June of that year.
NO CHILD UNDER 13 YEARS CAN BE EMPLOYED
PERMITTED HOURS OF WORK
SCHOOL DAYS
Can only work for a total of 2 hours -
1. One hour between 7am - 8am and one hour between the end of school and 7pm provided that the child of employed by the same employer.
or
2. Two hours between the end of school and 7pm.
SUNDAYS
Can only work for a total of 2 hours.
Children under 14 can only do light work.
CHILDREN UNDER 15 YEARS
SATURDAYS AND SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
Can only work 5 hours a day net. Can only work to a maximum of 25 hours in any week. If employed for more than 4 hours, must have a continuous break of one hour.
No child must lift, carry or move anything so heavy as to be likely to cause injury to him/her.
CHILDREN AGED 15 AND 16 YEARS
SATURDAYS AND SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
Can work no more than 8 hours a day, subject to a maximum of 35 hours in any week.
If employed for 4 hours or more must be allowed one hour continuous break.
NOTE
CHILDREN CAN ONLY WORK BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 7am AND 7pm
PROHIBITED EMPLOYMENTS

Sale or delivery of:
- Milk.
- Intoxicating liquor, cigarettes and drugs. In any Billiard Hall, Gaming Hall, Registered Club, or any Fairground Premises.
- Receiving or Negotiating Bets in or on any Racecourse or Track.
- Exposure to Dangerous of Harmful Substances, or Adult Material.
- In a Commercial Kitchen.
- In any Theatre, Dancehall, Cinema, Disco, Night Club, or Public House.
- In any Industrial Undertaking, or Factory.
- In collecting money.
PERFORMANCE/STAGE LICENCES FOR SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN
EMPLOYERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR REGISTERING CHILDREN AND OBTAINING AN EMPLOYMENT CERTIFICATE
