The Home and Hospital Tuition Service provides support to pregnant school children under the age of 16.
They are referred at 28 weeks by schools and/or the Teenage Pregnancy Midwives and stay with the programme until after the baby is born and the pupil well enough to return to school. Staff will then provide support to assist them back into full time education as well as offering assistance on issues such as childcare.
Each pupil receives a minimum of 5 hours home tuition per week plus a weekly session at Netherton Park Family Centre. This session provides them with ante-natal information assisting them to make informed choices about the practical aspects of childbirth; later it gives them practical help in coping with a new born baby .
