Governing Bodies
Governors are expected to :
Attend regular and special meetings of the governing body ( there must be at least one per term)
Work as a corporate member of the governing body (not as an individual) in the
best interests of the school
Play a full part in the work of committees
Become informed about education in general and about your school in particular.
Main roles of the governing body
help to raise standards of pupil achievement
plan the school's future direction
select the head teacher
make decisions on the school's budget and staffing
establish and implement a performance management policy for appraising all staff
make sure the National Curriculum is taught
decide how the school can encourage pupils' spiritual, moral and cultural development
make sure the school provides for all its pupils, including those with special needs
are accountable for the performance of the school to parents and the wider community
