Governing Bodies
Governors are expected to :
  • Attend regular and special meetings of the governing body ( there must be at least one per term)
  • Work as a  corporate member of the governing body (not as an individual) in the 
    best interests of the school
  • Play a full part in the work of committees
  • Become informed about education in general and about your school in particular.
      
Main roles of the governing body
  • help to raise standards of pupil achievement  
  • plan the school's future direction    
  • select the head teacher    
  • make decisions on the school's budget and staffing    
  • establish and implement a performance management policy for appraising all staff    
  • make sure the National Curriculum is taught    
  • decide how the school can encourage pupils' spiritual, moral and cultural development    
  • make sure the school provides for all its pupils, including those with special needs    
  • are accountable for the performance of the school to parents and the wider community
