Dudley School Governance Team Services
 
Dudley’s Directorate of Education and Lifelong Learning is fully committed to supporting individual governors and all governing bodies  through the School Governance Team provide a 'traded service’ which over 90% of Dudley governing bodies purchase. Our aim is to help improve the effectiveness of Dudley governing bodies, and thereby enhance the learning opportunities of Dudley children, This website complements the guidance and information we provide.
 
The service includes the following main components:
  • Training and Development for governors. The essential foundation courses for new governors  are delivered in each of the five areas of Dudley (Stourbridge, Halesowen, Brierley Hill, Dudley Central and Dudley North). Other courses, supporting the roles of governors with specific responsibilities, and the work of the governing body and its committees  are usually  delivered at a central venue – this is often Saltwells EDC in Netherton.
  • Advice and guidance to governors and Head teachers 
  • A fully trained clerking service
  • All individual governors of governing bodies purchasing the service receive, at their home address, a copy of the full training programme
  • Help line – for advice and guidance on specific or general issues, our helpline is 
    staffed during office hours (8.30-5.00) and has a 24 hour messaging service.
  • Dudley governor –is a twice yearly newsletter for governors and Head teachers
  • Whole governing body sessions – customised to  meet the needs of individual 
    governing bodies, to support their development in selected areas
  • Briefings for Heads and Chairs on the termly agenda
  • Termly briefings for Link governors

Database
The information you give on this form will only be used, in confidence, to enable the School Governance Team to ensure that the database it holds is up-to-date to enable it to fulfill the following functions:
  • Keep a record of training undertaken
  • Fulfill its legal obligations under the Governors Guide to the Law
  • Efficient communication with governors
  • To monitor the extent to which the composition of the governing body reflects the population of the school.
