Thorns Community Learning Village - an exciting proposal

 

Thorns Community Learning Village is an exciting opportunity to enhance the lives of children and young people of all abilities at Thorns Community College, Thorns Primary School and Old Park Special School.

 

Under the new proposals, Thorns Community College and Thorns Primary in Quarry Bank, Brierley Hill, will be welcoming Old Park to join their sites. A brand new and environmentally friendly school will be built

for Old Park, creating a well-equipped learning village for all.

 

It will open up opportunities and create activities for children and young people from all three schools, enabling them to interact with each other.

 

 

 

Architects have been working on the design of the new build for Old Park Special School over the past few months, and as part of that process a number of surveys have had to be undertaken. This has been necessary to establish the ecology of the site and ground conditions given that we are building within an old quarry and on quarry fill. 

 

All work and surveys are required upfront prior to submitting for planning.  Further work is still required with regard to the main building design and foundation design before we can submit for planning.

 

A decision has been made to split the project into two planning applications; one for the floodlit multi-use games area, and a separate application for the main build.

 

The planning application for the floodlit multi use games area has now been submitted and can be viewed on online.

 

A further update will be added once the planning application for the main build has been submitted.
