Thorns Community Learning Village - an exciting proposal

Thorns Community Learning Village - Children
Thorns Community Learning Village - Children

Thorns Community Learning Village is an exciting opportunity to enhance the lives of children and young people of all abilities at Thorns Community College, Thorns Primary School and Old Park Special School.

Under the new proposals, Thorns Community College and Thorns Primary in Quarry Bank, Brierley Hill, will be welcoming Old Park to join their sites. A brand new and environmentally friendly school will be built
for Old Park, creating a well-equipped learning village for all.

It will open up opportunities and create activities for children and young people from all three schools, enabling them to interact with each other.

You can now watch the development of the learning village take shape with our new webcam at www.old-park-webcam.co.uk/index.php

Thorns Community Learning Village update March 2010

The brand new multi-use games area (muga) which forms part of the new style learning village was officially opened on March 17 by the Mayor of Dudley Councillor Pat Martin and Councillor Liz Walker, cabinet member for children's services.

The state-of-the-art games area features a full size football pitch which can also be used for five a-side matches. It is a fabulous new facility for Thorns Community College and the wider community.

The opening marked the completion of the first phase of our exciting plan to create Thorns Community Learning Village. The project is the biggest one of its kind that the council's children’s services directorate has carried out in the borough.

Phase 2 of the works is currently under construction and will see the relocation of Old Park Special School onto the Thorns site.
Thorns Primary, Thorns Community College and Old Park Special School are all looking forward to working together as part of the learning village in putting children and young people first in Dudley.

Please see below images of the work so far and photographs from the official launch of the muga.

Access arrangements for Thorns Primary parents.

Due to the construction works on the Thorns Community College site, alternative access through the school site will be arranged for Thorns Primary parents and children.  Access will be available via a new route and will be clearly signposted from the main driveway entrance across the Thorns Community College playground.

A new gate will be installed into the fence line which will lead onto a new path across the public right of way, allowing access to the rear of Thorns Primary playing field.  A new gate will also be installed into the fence line of Thorns Primary and a new path will be laid across the playing field and will lead onto the playground.

All of these arrangements will be in place ready for the start of the new autumn term.  A map outlining the diversion is available below.
