Countryside

Fens Pools Views
The Countryside Service includes four teams based at Wren's Nest National Nature Reserve, Buckpool and Fens Pools Local Nature Reserve, Saltwells Local Nature Reserve and The Leasowes. The wardens promote their sites for citizens and visitors alike. Their role is mainly in habitat management, site maintenance and education. Projects involve trees and woodlands, grasslands, lakes, wildlife, geology and local history.

Working with teachers on National Curriculum key stages 1, 2 & 3 we work with visiting school groups, using the sites as outdoor classrooms, where children study mini-beasts, pond life, plants, geology, seasonal changes and how it affects their lives and the environment in which they live.

The service offers a wide range of educational, interpretational and instructive walks, talks and organised events for all ages, the majority of which are free of charge.

Promoting the Borough's green spaces together with the study of seasonal changes in nature all contribute toward a deeper, and longer lasting appreciation of the environment in which we live and our children will inherit.
