Dudley Countryside Management Project

 

Established in September 1988, the Dudley Countryside Management Project (DCMP) is jointly funded by the Council and the Countryside Commission. The Project aims to improve access to the Borough's countryside, to enhance its nature conservation and landscape values, and to raise awareness of opportunities for informal recreation. This work is undertaken in liaison with landowners and local community groups.

 

Initiatives have included work on the 13km Stour Valley Walkway, improvements to 30km of public footpaths around Halesowen, and, in liaison with other agencies, the publication of countryside walk leaflets.

 

The production of the Dudley Countryside Strategy was co-ordinated by the DCMP.  Published in March 1994, this important document directs action to sustain the agricultural, natural and historic resources of Dudley's countryside and to provide opportunities for its appreciation.

 

The DCMP operates a grant-aid programme for small-scale improvements in Dudley's countryside. Services offered include advice, scheme design, assistance with labour and materials, and grants of up to 50% of costs. Eligible schemes include habitat management and creation and access improvement.
