Grounds Maintenance / Green Care

 

The council is responsible for the grounds maintenance operations on council-owned land within the borough. This work includes grass cutting, hedge cutting, verge cutting, shrub bed maintenance, flower beds and rose beds maintenance, sports pitch markings etc.  In Green  care we aim to keep our parks and green spaces looking good. This is a huge operation, which entails employing around 100 members of staff all year round.

We look after the grounds maintenance of parks, open spaces, council housing estates – communal areas, highway verges and traffic islands, schools, playing fields and sports pitches, cemeteries and crematoria and children's play areas to name a few. We also manage Dudley’s stock of Council owned trees.

If you are unhappy with the service you have received in any aspect of our operations, please contact us to help sort out the problem for you. You can contact our call centre, who will record your details onto our enquiry system. An officer will then inspect and rectify the problem if at all possible.

If you need someone to undertake gardening or tree work on your own private property, you will need to contact one of the local lawn-mowing or tree services. The Yellow Pages is the best place to start looking but try to ensure that you use fully insured contractors.

Our work is issued on a 4 weekly programme and the Area Managers and  Supervisors have the freedom to plan their own work within each 4 week period. For example; litter collection issued on a 4 weekly basis may not be undertaken during the first week of each period. However, regular tasks should be undertaken on an evenly spaced frequency wherever possible or practicable.
