"The Black Country Core Strategy"

"Have your say on where people in the Black Country will live, travel, shop, work and play in 2021 and beyond…

The four Black Country Local Authorities of Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton are preparing a Joint Core Strategy for the Black Country in partnership with the community and other key organisations.

The Black Country Core Strategy will set out the vision, objectives and strategy for future development int eh Black Country up to 2021 and beyond.  It will form the basis of Dudley's Local Development Framework and guide future development decisions throughout the Black Country.  Although the Core Strategy will not mention specific sites, it will cover issues including:

  • the location and type of future housing developments
  • where jobs should be located
  • how people can move around the Black Country
  • the location and size of new shopping, leisure and cultural facilities
  • protection and improvement of the natural and built environment
  • how to address the needs of the Black Country’s diverse communities

The Black Country Core Strategy will take into account existing and emerging regional and national planning policies and guidance.  These include, amongst others, the Government's Planning Policy Statements, the Regional Spatial Strategy, proposed revisions to the Regional Spatial Strategy and other local plans and policies.  The strategy will also help deliver the priorities contained within the four Black Country Community Strategies/Plans.
