Wordsley and Ridge Hill Hospital Sites
The Wordsley and Ridge Hill Hospital Sites provide a major opportunity for boosting the regeneration of the Borough. This Brief sets out guidance and objectives for the development of both sites. The advice provided through the Brief is consistent with national and local planning guidance. It is also sensitive to the local circumstances that make these sites special. In the first instance, the Council encourages the retention and conversion of the historic complex of buildings that make up much of the former Wordsley Hospital. The landscape character of the area, its habitat and open space offers another key factor that will shape the development of both sites. The Council is conscious that the sites are important in their local context but also recognises that they have a wider role in offering choice and high quality residential development within the broader setting of the Borough. With this in mind, the council would particularly wish to see a density of development which compliments the diversity offered in the Borough and which takes the opportunity to provide additional quality to the Borough. Adding quality choices to both retain and attract residents to the Borough is a major contributor to regeneration and the sites addressed by this Brief have a full role to play in assisting this ambition.
