Block 13 - Stourbridge Gasworks
This opportunity site (Site F) is heavily polluted and previous allocations for industry and/or warehousing have not been implemented. The site is self-contained with steep cliff faces to the north and east which are geological Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation and therefore need to be retained and protected in any redevelopment.
It is very much out-of-centre given its location on rising ground and the separation from the Town afforded by the industrial estate and the ring road. However, its position fronting the strategic highway offers the opportunity for major landmark development on the approaches to the Town. The existence of more favourable sites closer to the retail core mean that the site is unsuitable for a foodstore development. However, other retail uses that are appropriate to this size of site are considered acceptable ie. Bulky Goods or DIY.
Access will be from High Street and road improvements will be required to facilitate right turning in and out of the site. A cycleway/footpath forms the southern boundary and access from this into the site should be
