Regeneration
1.56 The UDP recognises that the Borough’s town centres, older industrial areas and housing areas, are a key priority for renewal and regeneration if a more sustainable Borough is to be achieved by 2011.
1.57 The further development of the strategic town centre of Dudley and the town centres of Halesowen and Stourbridge has an important enabling role to play in raising the profile of the Borough as a whole to prospective investors, but also in creating new employment opportunities and providing the infrastructure improvements necessary to secure the UDP’s wider regeneration objectives.
1.58 The Council also recognise that the UDP has an important role in assisting community development based often on the Borough’s centres, and in helping in the provision of services and facilities. To achieve sustainable regeneration the Council will co-ordinate and link the policies and proposals of the plan with other regeneration strategies in particular the ‘Arc of Opportunity’ Regeneration Zone which covers central Dudley, Brierley Hill, Quarry Bank and Lye, in addition to parts of Sandwell and west Birmingham. The Prospectus/Action Plan includes a wide range of zone-wide regeneration initiatives, with a development focus in the Central Employment Zone. Adantage West Midlands see these initiatives as a priority for funding mechanisms.
