S15 Sport, Leisure and Recreation

New and improved sport, leisure and recreation facilities will be promoted and existing facilities will be given protection where necessary.

1.74 The Council is committed to enhancing the quality of life for the Borough’s people and recognises that sport, leisure and recreation have an important role in this respect. Furthermore the economic importance of such issues can be significant in terms of both employment and attracting new investment. The development of large scale leisure and entertainment uses must not however undermine the vitality and viability of the Borough’s town centres.

1.75 The role of sport, leisure and recreation in terms of community development is also recognised and the Council consider that people should have access to such facilities including sports pitches, children’s play areas and allotments. The Council’s approach to sport, leisure and recreation is set out in the Sport and Recreation Strategy: From Play to Performance.
