Waste and Recycling
In the UK as a whole, the amount of waste we produce increases by approximately 3% each year. On average, 20% of the food we buy goes straight into the dustbin.
By law, councils are compelled to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill. If targets are not met, fines will be imposed. The only way councils can reduce the amount of of rubbish collected is for residents to throw away less!
Dudley Council tries wherever possible to help residents to deal with their waste responsibly. Residents are encouraged to separate waste at home, and make use of the various home collections and other methods of disposal provided by the Council.
Whilst a concerted effort to recycle is important, we also need to put greater emphasis on our efforts to reduce and reuse rubbish.
Recycling
The Council provides a fortnightly kerbside recycling scheme for the collection of paper, glass and cans from all properties with ground floor access.
Green Waste and Special (bulky) collections are also available.
Facilities are also provided for residents to drop off a range of waste materials for recycling, including glass (bottles and jars), paper and board, food and drink cans, textiles, oils, scrap metal, car batteries, timber, garden waste, old toys, books and shoes. There is a Civic Amenity site in Stourbridge, and various drop-off points across the borough.
Reduce and reuse
Whilst a concerted effort to recycle is important, we need to put greater emphasis on our efforts to reduce and reuse rubbish.
Domestic Waste Collection
Dudley Council operates a back door sack collection service for domestic refuse. Please ensure that your refuse is securely contained in refuse bags. We will only collect normal domestic household waste in plastic sacks.
Garden waste collection
Dudley Council provides a green waste scheme for the collection of garden waste from each household on pre-determined dates, via householders placing the waste as near to the road as possible, on their own property.
Commercial waste
If you are a business, waste collection is not included within your business rates. Dudley Council offers a chargeable commercial waste collection service.
