Clinical Waste is generally health or animal waste that is hazardous and poses a threat of infection to humans. The term also includes drugs or other pharmaceutical products.
Clinical waste is mainly produced by hospitals, health clinics, doctors' surgeries and veterinary practices, but may also arise from residential homes, nursing homes and private households.
Clinical waste should not be mixed in with household waste. In addition, any sharp instruments, such as scalpels or needles, must be put into special yellow plastic containers known as "sharps boxes".
