Dudley Council provides a green waste scheme for the collection of garden waste from each household on pre-determined dates, via householders placing the waste as near to the road as possible, on their own property.
We are in the process of implementing a wheeled bin service for green waste, however, as this is being phased in over a 3 year period, we are continuing the loose waste collections in areas that have not yet changed to wheeled bin.
There will be three free scheduled collections to domestic householders each year in these areas. Please note that for flats this only applies to the householders of ground floor flats only.
For ad hoc garden waste collections additional to the above, please take your waste to a local Civic Amenity Site or alternatively the Council operates a chargeable Special Collections service.
Please note that garden waste put out as part of domestic waste will not be collected.
What garden waste can I put out?
Please put the following materials in your green wheelie bin, as they can be composted.
Grass cuttings
Hedge clippings
Annual weeds
Leaves
Small branches (maximum length: 1 metre, maximum diameter: 7.5cm)
Small prunings
What should I not put out?
Do not put the following materials in your green wheelie bin as they cannot be composted.
Animal waste
Food waste
Bricks , rubble, or concrete
Household waste
Large branches or tree stumps (Branches over 7.5cm / 3 inches diameter or 1m /4ft in length and will not be collected)
Paper & cardboard
Plastics
Soil & stones
Loose garden waste.
Wire & nails
Please also note:
Contaminated sacks or wheelie bins will not be emptied
If the sack is too heavy for you to lift, then it is too heavy for the collection crew to lift
If the collection crew have placed a yellow sticker on the rubbish it means that the waste is considered to be contaminated. These items will NOT be removed and remain the responsibility of the householder for removal.
When will my garden waste be collected?
A leaflet will be delivered to residents advising them as to the next collection date. Residents will need to refer to their leaflet, which will be delivered 1 week prior to collection.
What time does my green waste or green wheelie bin have to be out?
Your green waste or wheelie bin MUST be placed out by 7.30am on the day of your collection. If it is placed out any later, it may not be collected and will be done on your next collection date.
Home Composting
Nearly a third of what we all throw away is garden and kitchen waste (e.g. grass cuttings, leaves or fruit and vegetable peelings). This can easily be turned into compost, making your garden greener and reducing the amount of rubbish that is sent to landfill. Digging compost into your garden will help to improve the texture, drainage and aeration of the soil and adds nutrients. It is also the environmentally friendly alternative to peat based products.
Discounted composters are now available for purchase under a council scheme to boost kitchen and garden waste recycling.
