On 1 April 2010 The Building (Local Authority Charges) Regulations 2010 came into force requiring Local Authorities to alter the way they charge for their Building Control Function.
Dudley Building Control have introduced new fees from 1 October 2010. Unfortunately, as a consequence of how fees have to be calculated, you may notice differences between the categories of works charged by neighbouring Authorities. As with all change there will be a period of transition before the new system becomes familiar and we would remind you that our officers are always available to assist in Building Control issues and would be glad to discuss any questions that you may have following the introduction of these new fees or to discuss future projects that you may be considering.
Building Regulations
Changes to the Building Regulations came into effect on 1 October 2010. Advice on these matters is available from Dudley Building Control or via the Planning Portal.
When are the fees payable?
If you use a Building Notice Application the fee is payable at the time of submission. If you use a Full Plans Application, the fee is generally split into a plan fee and an inspection fee.
When using a full plans application a fee is payable on submission of the application. Then once you commence work on the site, after the first inspection has been carried out, a second fee is payable.
Further information on applications can be found on the Making an application webpage.
When can i commence site works?
When your application has been approved under the Building Regulations or a Building Notice has been accepted you are entitled to commence site works.
Exemptions
Work specifically to improve the lifestyle of a disabled person does not require a Building Regulation Fee. e.g. accessible bathroom or kitchen.
