A Scheduled Ancient Monumentis an archaeological site or historic building that is recognised as being of national importance, and is therefore given protection against unauthorised change.
The protection given to scheduled monuments is given under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979.
Scheduled Ancient Monuments are some of the most important features in the Borough and are selected by the Secretary of State. They are nationally important archaeological features and are composed of buildings, earthworks and isolated structures. Scheduled Monument Consent
Scheduled Monument Consent is permission from the Secretary of State and is needed before works of any type are carried out on the site.
