Sustainability Appraisal

As part of the Local Development Framework (LDF) process the Council is required to undertake a Sustainability Appraisal (SA) and where necessary a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). This process will be carried out for Development Plan Documents (DPD’s), Supplementary Planning Documents (SPD’s) and the Area Action Plans (AAP’s)

Dudley MBC is preparing a Development Strategy DPD. To ensure that the guidance in Dudley Borough contributes to sustainable development it will be subject to a Sustainability Appraisal. The appraisal will comply with the requirements of the SEA Directive 2001/42/EC.

The SEA Screening Letter is available to download below.

The Council has started the process of undertaking a Sustainability Appraisal of the Development Strategy DPD and has prepared a Scoping Report. The report sets out the current baseline of the area with regards to environmental, economic, social factors and current sustainability issues relevant to the DPD. The report also identifies the sustainability framework that will be used to assess the Development Strategy DPD and sets out the sustainability objectives that may have a bearing on the document.
The scoping report is subject to a six week consultation period which ends on the 10th of September 2010. The report has been sent to the three Statutory Consultees for the comments on its content. If you would like to comment on any part of the scoping report it is available to download below.
