Sustainability Appraisal

As part of the Local Development Framework (LDF) process the Council is required to undertake a Sustainability Appraisal (SA) and where necessary a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). This process will be carried out for Development Plan Documents (DPD’s), including Area Action Plans (AAP’s)

Dudley MBC is preparing a Stourbridge Area Action Plan (SAAP). To ensure that the guidance in the Stourbridge  AAP contributes to sustainable development it will be subject to a Sustainability Appraisal. The appraisal will comply with the requirements of the SEA Directive 2001/42/EC.

The Council started the process of undertaking a Sustainability Appraisal of the Stourbridge AAP by preparing a Scoping Report. The report sets out the current baseline of the area with regards to environmental, economic, social factors and current sustainability issues relevant to the AAP.

The report also identifies the sustainability framework that will be used to assess the Stourbridge AAP and sets out the sustainability objectives that may have a bearing on the document.

Following this, the Council prepared a Sustainability Report for the Stourbridge AAP Options document. This document assessed the objectives and options set out in the draft Options document for Stourbridge AAP against the sustainability appraisal framework.

Following consultation on the Stourbridge AAP Options document, Dudley Council prepared a 'Preferred Options' document and undertook a Sustainability Appraisal of the policies and proposals within it.

These Sustainability Appraisal reports have all been available for public consultation alongside each successive version of the Stourbridge Area Action Plan and are available to download below.
