Sustainable Buildings Supplementary Planning Document (SPD)

Dudley MBC is currently producing a Sustainable Buildings Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) as part of its suite of planning policy documents. The main purpose of the document is to support developers to achieve the very highest standards of building and site design in line with the key environmental and sustainability policies in the Black Country Core Strategy.

The aims of the Sustainable Buildings SPD are as follows:

  1. To set out Dudley Council’s commitment to achieving sustainable development through the planning process.

  2. To provide guidance on planning issues in relation to sustainable building design and the use of renewable energy technologies / energy efficiency in all buildings including historic buildings.

  3. To help developers reach the highest possible standards of sustainable building design and site layout.

  4. To measure and demonstrate sustainability principles of planning proposals in line with key policies in the Black Country Core Strategy.

It is proposed that the SPD will provide advice and guidance around the following areas of energy saving and sustainable development:

  1. Recycling and Waste

  2. Site Layout and Orientation

  3. Green Infrastructure

  4. Landscaping and Links to Biodiversity

  5. Flood Risk

  6. Transport Links

  7. Water efficiency and Recycling

  8. Financial incentives through the Clean Energy Cashback initiative.

  9. Guidance for retrofit of renewable energy technologies / energy efficiency in all buildings including historic buildings.

  10. Low Emissions.
