Planning

Planning is concerned with providing for new development in a sustainable way whilst protecting and conserving the natural and built environment of the Borough. We aim to provide an efficient service, which considers all aspects of an application before making a fair and democratic decision.

What does the service involve?

The statutory element of the service involves;

The service also has statutory responsibilities in respect of Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas and provides a wide range of advice and guidance on planning, development and other environmental matters.

A framework for development is set out in Government guidance on the Communities and Local Government website, in more detail in Regional planning guidance and at local level in the Dudley Unitary Development Plan (UDP). Planning applications are considered against this framework, in particular the Unitary Development Plan (UDP) for the area, but also against any other material planning consideration.

Can I get further information on planning permission?

Further information on planning applications, including advice on whether you require planning permission and submitting your application, including online submission, is available using the options to the left or why not contact us to discuss your requirements. 

Our Development Control reception area is located at 3 St James’s Road, Dudley. If you wish to submit a planning application, inspect the register of new planning applications, apply to carry out works to protected trees, or report a suspected breach of planning control the reception is open daily from 8.45 am to 5.00 pm. Duty Planning Officer

A duty-planning officer is available each day between the hours of 9.00am to 5.00pm. Further information about this service please visit the advice and guidance section.

National information on Planning can be found at the Planning Portal - hosted by the Planning Inspectorate. The Department of Communities and Local Government provides a guide to the Planning System in England. Planning Aid provide free, independent and professional advice on planning issues to people and communities who cannot afford to hire a planning consultant.
