What is Clinical Waste

Clinical Waste is generally health or animal waste that is hazardous and poses a threat of infection to humans. The term also includes drugs or other pharmaceutical products.

Clinical waste is mainly produced by hospitals, health clinics, doctors' surgeries and veterinary practices, but may also arise from residential homes, nursing homes and private households.

What should I do with clinical waste?

Clinical waste should not be mixed in with household waste. In addition, any sharp instruments, such as scalpels or needles, must be put into special yellow plastic containers known as "sharps boxes".

Removal of clinical waste

There is no charge for removal of clinical waste from domestic properties.

Commercial Clinical Waste Service

Please note that the council does not collect from commercial or industrial premises.
