What is social care?

At some point in our lives most, if not all, of us will need help with every day living because of an illness, a disability, because we are getting older or because we are caring for someone.

‘Social care’ is the name given to a wide range of support offered by the Council, voluntary and community organisations and independent organisations and in some cases, self-employed people.

How to find what you are looking for in these pages

If you continue reading you will find information about what support there is available, how you contact us and the processes we, and you, need to go through to decide who can receive these services.

At each stage, there will be a simple explanation and links to relevant services. In addition you will find links to external local, regional and national sites where you can find more information and links to policies, strategies and procedures which tell us how we need to work.

Finally; through our getting involved pages, we will tell you what is happening and how you can become involved.
