News update - In 2011 the Government announced major reforms to the Blue Badge parking scheme. The reforms are designed to make the application process fairer and clamp down on fraud and abuse. The first of these changes are now being introduced in the Dudley borough. For more details about the changes please click here - Blue Badge scheme

The Blue Badge scheme

The Blue Badge scheme provides parking concessions for people with severe walking difficulties who travel either as drivers or passengers. The scheme also applies to people who are registered blind and people with very severe upper limb difficulties who regularly drive a vehicle but cannot turn a steering wheel by hand.

For more details about whether you qualify for a blue badge please go to the Directgov website at: https://bluebadge.direct.gov.uk/directgovcheck.html

Applying for a Blue Badge

Further to the Government's reforms the Blue Badge parking scheme will still be run by councils but Badges will now be issued centrally in a similar way to passports – this means that the Blue Badge can no longer be collected from local offices.

If you need to renew your Blue Badge soon:

  • Allow time to process your application before your current badge runs out
  • Phone the Blue Badge Team on 0300 555 0055 to request an application form
  • When you have completed your form make an appointment with the team who will check if you are eligible, check your ID, take your photograph and take payment (see information below for more details).

Charges to process applications in Dudley are going up from £2 to £5 from 1 March 2012
