What services may be available?

There are a number of services that may be provided to the person you care for. These may include:

personal care for the person you look after
day opportunities outside the home
short breaks of a few hours
longer periods of 'respite care'
care homes or supported housing
advice from Occupational Therapists on aspects of daily living
equipment to help people cope or care
home adaptations that may be available to make the home a safer and more convenient place to live.

Will there be a charge for these services?

There may be a charge for some of these services. The charge will be based on the financial circumstances of the person you care for. This will be explained to you both. When determining the charge we will also make sure that the person cared for is claiming all the benefits to which s/he is entitled.

Are there any services for the carer?

Although most services are provided to the cared for person, we are now able to provide services directly to carers. Many of these services are provided through voluntary organisations. Information about services available is included in our Dudley Carer Newsletters and Factsheets

Can I get a Direct Payment?

We are now able, following a carer's assessment, to provide one-off carer's Direct Grants (Payment) to enable carers to pursue activities that will enable them to carry on caring. These payments are not the same as the Direct Payments that can be made to the cared for person.
