Children with Disabilities Services

Children with disabilities services, are jointly commissioned by Dudley’s Children’s Services and Dudley Primary Care Trust.

The services support children and young people from birth to 18 years and their families/carers, where the child has a severe physical, sensory, learning disability or a long term complex health condition which seriously affects their daily living.

Services available include

  • physical and practical support within the home

  • direct work children who have been assessed as having complex significant needs.

  • short breaks both in and away from home; families who would like to only access short break

  • services may be able to organise their own short breaks via the Project Manager; families who feel they require additional support services can access short breaks via the children with disabilities team.

  • social work, advice and support

  • special assessments on behavioural interventions

  • provision of advice and support in relation to learning disabilities and health needs

  • development of new skills to help families cope

  • direct payments which are payments to purchase short breaks and sometimes other services to enable choice and flexibility.

Referrals for services should be made via the Children with disabilities team.

The Children with disabilities services also maintains the Children's Disability Network an interagency database of information about children and young people with disabilities or complex health conditions living in the borough of Dudley.

Survey for young or young adult carers

Do you know of a young or young adult carer aged 13-25?
Please see this link for information about a survey designed by a working group of statutory and voluntary sector partners.

We are hoping for as big a response as possible to enable us to build up a picture of the role and needs of young and young adult carers in the Borough. If you are involved with young people who have caring responsibilities please encourage them to complete the survey. We can supply hard copies if people would prefer to complete it by post
